Ιntertwined stories: From Art Athina to Artworx

Updated: 7 days ago

A new art space in the heart of Kifisia has opened its doors a few months ago. This is the the “Artworx” gallery. Maria Xanthakou and Isabela Frances, a mother and daughter duo have joined forces and, with their shared  aesthetic sense and knowledge, have created a unique and welcoming environment.

Upon entering the gallery, one quickly realizes that it is not just another “sterile” space filled with artworks, but a promising artistic portal open to all. For a moment, you feel as if you are in an artist’s studio, enveloped in warmth, ready to converse with friends, artists, and collectors.

This feeling of hospitality and intimacy was also present at this year’s Art Athina, where the Artworx gallery made its debut at this historic art event, accompanied by three remarkable artists, offering the art-loving public a unique visual experience.

Are these three worlds so different? Or perhaps they are more alike than we think?

One thing is certain: the harmony that their coexistence radiates.

Three distinct artistic worlds are reintroduced through the works of Pavlos Samios, Lydia Venieri, and the African artist Aboudia, highlighting the value of polyphony in art.

“Art Athina after Viewing”

Four days weren't enough to fully appreciate the coexistence of these three great artists. Thus, starting from October 9, the exhibition continues in the original space where the idea was born. In essence, the Artworx gallery is transporting an enriched version of its first participation in Art Athina 2024 to its venue in Kifisia!

Upon viewing the exhibition, the mysterious animal-like beings of Lydia Venieri take center stage, with her installation “BlueFungus” dominating the space. Lydia Venieri is a Greek painter known for her unique approach and vibrant color palettes. Her work often focuses on themes that highlight human experience, nature, and everyday life, all with a poetic dimension. Her pieces frequently radiate emotional intensity and inviting viewers to delve into the meanings hidden behind the images. This is something that the late Pavlos Samios also achieves remarkably well. His works, full of life and characterized by the passionate struggle between women and mythical dragons, combine traditional elements with modern techniques, demonstrating his deep artistic understanding and ability to connect the past with the present.

Meanwhile, Aboudia (Aboudia Koné) brings a unique visual dimension, blending elements of African culture with contemporary street art techniques. As a leading figure in the global contemporary art scene, with exhibitions in London, Paris, and New York, and his works gracing museums and private collections worldwide, he “converses” with the public through his art. His pieces often capture urban life and social challenges in Côte d'Ivoire, using bold and vibrant color palettes along with characteristic forms and writings. He frequently employs eclectic materials, such as spray paint and acrylics, to create multidimensional works that showcase the energy and vibrancy of the city.

Through the unique approaches of Lydia Venieri, Pavlos Samios, and Aboudia, visitors have the opportunity to explore multiple dimensions of art and discover facets of themselves.

The Artworx gallery, with its philosophy of hospitality and open dialogue, stands as a new reference point in the artistic community of Athens.

Surely, another chapter into the world of art has just begun!
